WILDLIFE in Poitou Charentes

Overhead, there are Buzzards, Woodpeckers ,Owls and numerous other woodland species . We have actually seen a Cuckoo this year, have heard the song of the Golden Oriel and spotted the petite Firecrest.

The lakes and ponds attract Kingfishers, Herons,Ducks ,Frogs and Toads.

There are masses of Butterflies and Ladybirds, and our Wildflower area will attract even more species. We already have large circles of beautifully scented wild thyme.

Lizards bathe in the glorious sunshine on walls and stones.

Grasshoppers and Crickets are also a delightful addition to the soundscape.

This Summer the rare Swallowtail Butterfly has been spotted feeding on the Buddleia.

Our Walnut Tree attracts the gorgeous Red Squirrels .It is fascinating to watch their aerial aerobatics.

There are Deer in the woods and surrounding fields.There are also Beech Martins and Coypu nearby.

There are numerous mature trees in the valley - including our prolific Walnut Tree, Horse Chestnut - no shortage of Conkers here!- Oak, Beech, Pines.

Autumn is a delightful month of bounty, delicious fresh Walnuts and small white Peaches , not forgetting the abundance of wild Mushrooms.

In the Spring the numerous wildflowers will come into their own.

We are continually discovering more delights - and will update new sightings.
